I suppose any season is cookie season, isn’t it? But when it comes to making homemade cookies, we’re now getting into the prime season for baking. You can make fun Halloween cookies in pumpkin and monster shapes, topped with black and orange icing or sprinkles. There are all kinds of festive cookies you can make with the coming holidays- turkey and cornucopia shaped cookies for Thanksgiving, Santa and reindeer cookies for Christmas – the list goes on. Of course there are the classic treats like cinnamon oatmeal and walnut chocolate chip cookies, made to be dipped warm into a big glass of milk or hot chocolate. We usually keep some of the batch out to enjoy right away and another part of the batch goes in the freezer to enjoy the following week. Our cookies sit on the kitchen counter top, in a white ceramic cookie jar that keeps the treats in easy reach.

This unique cookie jar is both classic and contemporary at the same time and would look great in any kitchen. Plus it comes in a variety of colors to complement any color scheme including crisp white, terra cotta, cobalt blue, warm yellow, and natural terra cotta. Perfect for your own kitchen or as a nice housewarming gift!

For as long as I can remember we’ve been using Pyrex dishes in our home. And not just in our home because I remember both my mother and my grandmother having various Pyrex glassware in their homes too. My mom still has a few of her pieces all of these years later. I can clearly see her square casserole dish that she made her macaroni and cheese in and the round covered casserole that still likes using for hot casserole and cold fruit and pasta salads too. Until recently I had only a couple of similar pieces in my own home. But since I’ve been switching to using more glass for food storage I decided it was time to add more pieces to my kitchenware. That’s why I decided this Pyrex 18 Piece Glass Food Storage Set is the perfect glassware set for me.

This great eighteen piece set has all of the pieces I need for my food storage needs including: three 2-cup round storage containers, two 7-cup round storage bowls, two 4-cup round storage containers, two 1-cup round storage bowls and nine matching covers. Pyrex is wonderful because you can use it in the oven and the microwave and then just toss it in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. I know I’ll get many years of use out of this excellent set of glass food storage containers.

Of all the teas I’ve made, this is probably the most curious recipe. Our English friends usually prefer milk in their tea, as Americans prefer lemon. Once you taste this English-style tea, you’ll begin to understand why a little milk is so yummy. Now, I keep a tin of Ginger Tea Mix in my cupboard all the time. Ginger is known to quiet an upset tummy, and milk soothes, as well. I’ll change the type of tea I use depending on what I want to try next. You can make this tea with green tea, red tea, white tea, or even your favorite herbal tea. But be careful that you don’t lose the ginger in the other flavors.

It’s wonderful to find budget beverage recipes so you can experiment a little. If you look at fancy teas in the stores, you’ll be hard-pressed to justify trying a tea to see if you like it. It’s hard to spend that kind of money on an experiment! When you’re making your drinks using reasonably priced, whole foods, you can afford to go a bit wild creating a new drink!

I want to share a quick story with you that might be an eye opener for you. I was watching a show on the Food Network last week with a friend and both of our mouths were watering as the chef was preparing what looked like a very delicious, satisfying meal. At one point my friend laughed and said “Yeah, I could probably make better tasting foods if I used that much butter. The least he could do it replace that butter with margarine.” That’s when the conversation took a turn she didn’t see coming.

“Why would he want to use margarine instead of butter?”, I asked her knowing what the response would be. “Because it’s healthier of course”, she replied. That’s when I grinned and asked her, “Did you know that margarine eaters are twice as likely to have a heart attack as butter eaters?” She thought I was joking at first. But then I explained that many items on high cholesterol food lists to avoid aren’t as bad for your arteries as we’ve been led to believe. So be careful and when in doubt, choose a natural food over an artificial food.

My sister is a big tea drinker. Every time she comes over to visit, the first thing she does is head to the kitchen, fill up my tea kettle and then she pops it on the stove to boil. I’ve asked her at times why she always uses a kettle instead of just popping some water in the microwave, and she usually replies it’s not the same, she prefers the temperature of the boiling water from the kettle. Her own kettle is starting to show its age, so I’ve decided I’m going to surprise her with a shiny new stainless whistling tea kettle for the holidays.

She’ll get a big kick out of the gift, but even more importantly I know she will love it and use it all of the time. When she’s not using it, I’m sure the rest of the family will be heating up water for some hot cocoa or their favorite Ramen noodle soup. It’s definitely the kind of gift that won’t go to waste. I’ve picked a tea kettle made of 18/10 stainless steel since I know it’s durable. Plus this kettle is very attractive and will look great on her stove top. I think tea kettles make a great gift for any tea-lover!
